You Could Get a Deal in Vegas This Year

We promise that this isn’t a promotional message for ICSC’s Spring Convention in Las Vegas this May, but we couldn’t let this go unmentioned.

While checking our Crackberry yesterday evening, we received an email telling us that our room rate for the convention had been reduced by $90(!!!), and it wasn’t even that high to begin with. (We swear it wasn’t, Counter Culture bosses!)

We’re guessing this means two things: 1) This convention is going to be more affordable than it has been in recent years. 2) Things are SO BAD in Vegas and with the convention climate in general that they’re pulling out all the stops this year to get people to attend.

We’ve certainly covered Vegas’ recent tourism woes on GlobeSt. And ICSC has a page on its Web site devoted to convention savings.

So what is your take? Is the convention so important that you would go no matter the cost? Are lower rates going to convince you to go when you might not otherwise this year? Or are things so tight that no matter the price, you just can’t attend?

We are going to Las Vegas in February. Got an incredible deal – $721 total for 2 airfares and staying 4 nights in Paris!!! It’s definitely the time to go!!

Are there actually new deals to be done at this troublesome time? I imagine there will be more existing deals broken than new deals sealed during this conference, and I can’t imagine the parties, assuming they are held, are going to be very good this year.

I expect this show to most closely resemble the 91 or 92 shows. It was sort of like going to a funeral, the show was deathly quiet with very little traffic. This could be worse however because back then the retailers were reasonably healthy and wanted to expand but couldn’t because the lenders were over exposed to CER and had no money even for the most credit worthy developers. Now everyone, lenders, retailers, developers has gotten their rear ends kicked.

The only deal you’ll likely get in Vegas this year, is the deal on your hotel room.

If your not there trying to make something happen and pressing the flesh, You need to get out of the game and go sell copiers…that way there will be more deals for me to do and I wont be having to try to get around you on the escalator.

What YOU don’t realize is that you are already OUT of the game, even though you’re in it.
