Technology Not Enough for Quicksilver

We’ve seen the Microsoft commercial below about surfwear company Quicksilver fighting the “economic tsunami” through technology a few times on television. We wonder if it’s going to get pulled from circulation now that the company is announcing 200 layoffs.

Wouldn’t doubt they’d pull the commercial, at least for a while.

Big companies (auto, chemical, airlines, etc.) usually put a brief moritorium on print/tv ads after an “event” (i.e. accidents, lay-offs, etc.).

Message needs to be spontaneously re-tooled or we see the other edge of the ad-sword — a business/consumer community mocking the intelligence of an advertiser continuing to run blue-sky advertising themes that fly in the face of reality.
