VIDEO: Restaurant Lets You Decide Menu Prices

So here’s a concept that Counter Culture readers will surely enjoy. A concept called Java Street Cafe in Kettering, OH, lets customers choose what they’re paying for a meal depending on what they think it’s worth. There are no menu prices.

So you are you shopping centers/brokers out there going to jam this place’s phone lines and beg them to start franchising? No? Maybe?

We remember reading about The Beatles trying to do something like this with less-than-favorable results.

Ian – i love this idea. Its finally a restaurant that has “fair” pricing – not too cheap, and not too expensive. It will be fair to the patrons since they will pay what they think is fair. Restaurants are probably shivering in their boots – can you imagine!? the customers paying what they THINK was fair for the service and goods that they receive!!?! customers will try the food, if it was good, they’ll come back and pay – if not, they wont. Its simple. This really puts a spin on the saying “if you have to ask how much it is – you probably cant afford it” HA! i’ve always hated that phrase anyways!!

It’ll work, most people are fair minded and too embrassed to act like total jerks, besides its the other profit-minded restaurants who set the customer’s idea of a fair price. These guys may even do better with this concept than with a priced menu, look at all the attention it is getting. The concept is right on given the times. Franchising?? ah NO!

This is not a new concept. There is a restaurant somewhere on the W. Coast (Portland, Seattle, or mayby Berkeley) that’s been doing this for a couple of years…Definitely a novel concept for the Mid West though.

I don’t think this restaurant will survive for long. When majority of their customers underpay or don’t pay at all for the meals they eat, the restaurant will lose money and they’ll be forced to close down. It’s an interesting concept they are using though..

    This concept is absurd.
