Do Drunk Men Buy More Clothes?

It seems that if you give men a few beers in a luxury store, they’re more likely to open their wallets to buy a new shirt. Stores across the country are offering Happy Hour-style events in order to attract a demographic that’s always been a tough apparel sell, according to a recent Newsweek article.

Hey people, it’s Friday.

Perhaps, but I’d be interested to see how many returns the stores get the next day. Drinking and shopping don’t usually mix – most women found this out years ago!

Duh…. every xmas shopping spree starts w/ tequila shots at the restaurant bar in the mall.

…. about time they started figuring it out.

I can envision the new revamped car dealerships embracing this tactic.

Yes, I have done that twice. Once an event for Barney’s in Chicago and once at Sulka in NY where they had a scotch tasting event. Both time I ended up returning half of what I purchased. I do see more and more places offering alcohol while you shop or get service. Even upscale barbershops are serving beer or wine to enhance the experience.

i dont know that this is really that exciting a development. many a boutique in la will offer you complimentary drinks as you shop. hell, the fifth floor of barneys has a nice will bar/cafe. it would be a site to see it at the local malls inline shops. but boutiques have done this forever.

Even if you returned half of what you bought, chances are signficantly greater than zero that the store netted far more from you than it would have otherwise.

Based on what I see out there it would be far more effective to offer bssic “Dressing Lessons”. Men’s clothes are well made and they don’t really fall prey to excessive fashion nonsense. Still many men could benefit from basic lessons in what to wear with what and for what ocassion. Keep it low key, humorous and non threatening to the male ego. I think that would lead to more sales than offering booze and scantilly clad women.
